As if a market is crowded with lively people to sell and buy goods, the creative arcade has attracted artists shining with the light of creativity like glow worms in summertime.
52 vacant shops in the former Sindang underground shopping center constructed in 1971, were refurbished into 40 small studios for Seoul Art Space_Sindang which specializes in arts and crafts.
The creative arcade accommodates artists from different fields including crafts (pottery/ fabric/ metal/ glass/ wood/ paper/ clay/ lacquer/ cloisonne), printmaking, bookart, photography, illustration, and media arts, who can produce various new works.
The Art Space also endeavors to plan and implement a variety of programs for local members of the community in the form of art markets and open studios in order to nurture liveliness in the local culture and the traditional market.

Sindang Jungang market where Seoul Art Space_ Sindang is located, opened in 1971 and had its heyday in the 1970s with a wide range of shops offering their wares including bedding, Korean traditional clothes, restaurant equipment, and Sushi restaurants. However, the market was on the decline because of the emergence of a department store and supermarkets.
In recent years the old shopping center has gradually been regenerated as a cultural space after welcoming a new owner.
