Guide for Artists' Residency Applications

The Artist Residency Program invites artists to stay in the residencies for creative activities for a period of time.

Seoul Art Space_ Geumcheon, an idea factory; Seoul Art Space_ Sindang, a creative arcade; Seoul Art Space_ Yeonhui, a literary nest; and Seoul Art Space_ Seongbuk, a center for creative arts operate an Artist Residency Program.

When can I apply for the Artist Residency Program?

- Call for residency application is posted on the website in June and July of each year. Application is open for 3 weeks and the final results are published in late August.

When can I apply for the Artist Residency Program? And how can I apply?

- Call for Residency Applicationd is posted on the website in early March of each year (once a year).

Apply online only on the offical website (not in person or by post).

How long is the residency period? And who is eligible for the program?

- The residency period is about 3~6 months, and specific period will be announced later when calling for residency applications.

To qualify for a grant, an applicant must be a writer who made a literary debut through annual spring literary contests or other specialty literary media in Korea, or must be a translator who has a publication of Korean literature translated into a foreign language by his or herself alone.

Target genres are poetry, novel, play, children's book, literary criticism and Korean literature's translation into any foreign language.

How do you select applicants?

- Your applications including writing experience and a writing proposal will be reviewed by jurors. There are no interviews.

Do I need to pay rent?

- Yes, but only a small amount. You will need to pay a monthly fee of 5,500 won per pyeong(3.3m²) (including VAT) for a writing studio. There is no charge for use of other facilities except a writing studio.

What are the available facilities and times for resident writers?

-The Art Space has writing studios, a shared kitchen, a seminar room, a literary media studio, Artists' Playground and parking lots for resident artists. The facilities are open 24 hours only for resident artists.

Can resident artists borrow books in the literary media studio?

- The books in the library can not be borrowed. Resident artists may read the books only in the literary media studio.

- Who is eligible for the Artist Residency Program?

To qualify for a grant, an applicant, both artists and arts and cultural organizations, should present a project that will help the members of the local community develop a tight bond with their venue, environment, history and culture in Seoul Art Space_ Seongbuk.
